Soft coral species are often a good choice for beginners, but also favourites amongst collectors. Zoanthids, Palythoas, Mushrooms, Anthelia, Anemones and many more. Since soft corals do not have a calcium carbonate skeleton like the stoney corals (LPS and SPS), they tend to require less calcium and alkalinity to build their tissue. This does not mean that stable parameters are not important! Some soft corals can be very sensitive to salinity and alkalinity changes. Low to medium flow and a steady source of nutrients, similar to LPS, keep them thriving. Our Soft coral system is maintained with very similar conditions to our LPS system.
