The most popular and highly collected SPS coral species is undoubtedly Acropora. Many hobbyists who keep an SPS dominated aquarium, focus mainly on the acropora species because they are so infinitely varied. In order to compete for space on the reef, acroporids have evolved and adapted to form a wide range of growth patterns. These structures range from bushy (round), tabling or plating (flat), pillar forming, to staghorn (branching). Colours range from bright yellow, toxic green, cherry red, to the deepest blue imaginable.
